7 Routines to stay healthy in Monsoon season

Skincare, Nutrition, physical body routines as per Ayurveda and Yoga practices
Rainy weather , monsoon season, Varsha ritu - always brings along a feeling of freshness, softness and calmness amongst all the chaos. Nature seems clean and new , pollution reduces and the cozy weather makes one want to cuddle up in bed and be with your loved ones.
The change in weather , however also carries with it ailments that can imbalance your digestive system, lead to infections and bacterial increase , make your skin acne prone due to the humidity , reduce essential vitamins making you feel lethargic and uneasy , and brings a certain sense of gloominess due to the greyscale colors around.
Below mentioned are 7 Routines that you can follow to try to bring your body, your mind and soul into balance. These routines delved in Yoga and Ayurvedic practices are natural , preventative , simple and foster healthy living during the Monsoon season.
a. Nutrition - Freshly made Warm foods - Pitta energy gets imbalanced and digestive fire gets weak - soups , stews , turmeric in dishes , black pepper spices etc. Consume boiled water only especially for kids to avoid dengue and malarial infection ; avoid raw salads veggies and cold cuts. Include jaggery and dates for iron.
b. Nutrition - Immunity boosting drinks and beverages -
Giloy warm water ;
Amla , lemon and turmeric warm water
Tulsi tea , ginger and cardamom warm tea
Vitamin C boosting beverages
Triphala in warm water for digestion and avoid bloating
c. Skincare - the increase in humidity can make your skin acne prone and bring in oiliness to the skin.
Clay / Multani Mitti face packs - to balance the Ph levels and reduce clogged pores. 1 tbsp Multani Mitti (or clay) , 1/2 tsp sandalwood powder , 2 tbsp rose water , Tea Tree oil face pack
For dry skin and skin glow - Curd + Besan (gram flour) + crushed Neem + Tea tree face oil + honey
Ice pack - take one cube of ice , wrap it in a muslin cloth and rub it gently on your facial skin.
Vitamin A - natural retinol foods , Blood and Iron boosting foods - pomegranate, beetroot, carrots, apples, Bottle gourd (ghiya) , Berries as antioxidants.
d. Skincare and Body care - Practice Face Yoga to reduce pigmentation and fullness with face oils - jojoba , cold pressed almond oil to enhance lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness.
Abhyanga / Self oiling with sesame oil, ghee or an Ayurvedic massage to reduce the stiffness, reduce the Vata and Kapha elements in your body.
e. Pranayama - Since the AQI is better, practice Pranayama for better oxygenation and to avoid wheezing. Alternate Nostril Pranayama / Anulom Vilom breathing for cleansing of lungs.
f. Yoga and Workout - Practice Asanas and movements for hip , lower body mobility, joints as the weather can make these areas stiff.
g. Hygiene - Maintain hygiene with constant washing of hands - anti bacterial soup ; replace face towels regularly - try face tissues instead of towels.
